While Shawn was in Utah, she stayed with Kate and Chad for a few days. While there they went to Todd & Jennifer's for dinner and some catching up with some of the cousins living in the Provo area.

Shawn left for Utah, Bryce Canyon specifically, on Tuesday the 19th to go on a quilting get-a-way with several of her Upper Arlington friends (Troba Mangum, Karen Fulton). They were off to Bryce Canyon; staying at Ruby’s Inn Resort Hotel. Sharon Friedman (used to live in UA) met them, coming from Colorado. They seemed to have had a great time with the other 255 women who attended. They learned many techniques and methods from quilt designers brought in from various parts of the country to teach the classes. They attended classes and quilted all day and into the night. Shawn started several projects which She will work on over the next year or so. The girls had a great time.

Scott's Missionary Influence

Our son, Scott, who is now serving a mission is Concepcion, Chile was a good friend to many here in Powell, Ohio. Since he left there have been a couple who have wanted to know more about his beliefs. One of them is Jenny. Shawn and I had the privelege of taking her to church with us today. It was a good experience for us and I think it was a very positive experience for her as well. She is starting the discussions with the FTM's (1 lesson so far). Here we are sitting in class after the Gospel Principles lesson in the Powell Ward.

February Birthdays

While Jody and Tom were with us we took time out to celebrate some of our family's birthdays. Life was a little hectic these past couple of weeks, so we decided to put them all together in a single event. Myles Dehner turned 2 on January 30th, Mike's birthday was February 2nd, Kurt's was February 4th, and Jody's was the 5th. So........we all met for a dinner at a local Mexican restaurant, Fiesta Jalisco, this on Saturday night the 9th. It was quite a scene with 13 people and lots of grandchildren everywhere.

For those having birthdays, the servers brought big sombreros and small personalized desserts for us. As you can see some of the dessert ended up on our faces. I guess that's what they do at Fiesta Jalisco. After dinner we went to our house for dessert and to open gifts. We had a great night!!

Jody and Tom

My sister, Jody is engaged to marry Tom Grimm. she met him in Denver about a year ago and they are to be married May 10th. Plans are underway for the wedding here in columbus at Tartan Fields Country Club. Our bishop, Gary Cluff, will do the honors of pronouncing them man & wife, followed by a sit down dinner for those invited.

This past week Jody came to Columbus for her and Shawn to make a lot of the decisions needed for the wedding and reception. They ordered the invitations, the cake and settled on the food and other details for the reception/dinner afterwards. Tom flew in on Friday and we spent a few days with them. It was nice to meet Tom and to hang with them as a couple. They left on Sunday after lots of family time.

Winter Golf

Kurt joined 7 other LDS guys for a few days of golf in Orlando, Florida. He left Tuesday evening and came home last night. While there, they played 36 holes of golf each day and played 18 holes on Saturday before leaving for home. He had a great time and the weather was great; lots of sun and temperatures i the upper 70's. He was invited by one of the guys, Craig Sonksen, who we know here in Columbus. The others came from Cleveland, Sacramento and Dallas. They played at Orange County National Golf Club, which had lodging along with 2 different golf courses. He came back with some good memories and a very sore left foot ("The Foot").

President Gordon B. Hinckley 1910-2008

Last Sunday night we received a call from friends in Utah letting us know that President Gordon B. Hinckley had died. At 97 years of age, he lived a long and fulfilling life. He has served as a general authority since April 6, 1958. He was sustained as a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles on October 5, 1961 and he has served as the 15th President of the Church since he was set apart on March 12, 1995. During his years as an Apostle, he served 14 years as a counselor in the First Presidency to Spencer W. Kimball, Ezra Taft Benson and Howard D. Hunter. He has been a great example and has been known widely for his ever-present sense of optimism, his willingness to bring the church forward out of obscurity through his travels and his interviews, and maybe is best known for his good sense of humor. We have loved reading the books he has written and his autobiography, “Go Forward With Faith”. He will be missed as our beloved leader. Our prayers now turn to Thomas S. Monson who surely has never wanted this day to come. President Monson has served most of his life as a general authority. It will be interesting to see the areas of emphasis which the Lord places on the Church through President Monson.

Elder Scott Dehner

Our son Scott is serving a mission for our church in Concepcion, Chile. He left August 22, 2007 and will return home in two years. He is really making a difference. Those of you who know him best will enjoy knowing that his fun personality is still intact.



As proof to that, we enjoy these two pictures which show that even though he is involved in a very important work, his fun-loving side still comes through. Isn't it amazing that a young man from Powell, Ohio can influence a young man named
Petricio from Concepcion, Chile.



You can tell from this picture of Petricio's baptism that these two young men have a good connection.

Christmas 2007

2007 was another great Christmas. We were lucky enough to have Great-Grandpa Dehner with us for the holidays. At 92 he is doing so well. He moves a little slower and hears a little worse, but he is still active (so to speak), still drives, and lives by himself in his home of 42 years.

On Christmas Eve everyone came over for dinner and the grandchildren put on a nativity play so we could better understand the true meaning of Christmas. It seems that at least one of the sheperds had some trouble staying with Mary and Joseph. Also, Mary dropped the baby Jesus a time or two - no harm, no foul.

After the "off" Broadway rendition of the Christmas story Shawn gathered all the children into the kitchen so they could decorate some cookies for Santa Claus. Trust me, Santa enjoyed (I mean will enjoy) the cookies.
